Microsuction uses a very small vacuum tube that sucks, dislodges and takes wax away from the ear. Other than a slight feeling of suction, some cracks and squeaks from your ear as the pressure is reduced, you will barely feel anything during treatment.
As well as this, the entire process is very quick; a microsuction appointment typically takes half an hour to complete, including examining your ear and planning the procedure, although in a lot of cases the procedure can take as little as a few minutes as the ear wax is gently sucked out.
Exactly how long the microsuction process will take will depend on the amount of wax in your ears, how far it is in the ear canal, how compacted it is, the shape of the ear canal, and if there are any additional ear health concerns that could affect the treatment duration.
If there is particularly stubborn ear wax, it may be necessary to administer ear drops to help soften it or to employ some manual removal techniques to break it down and make microsuction more effective against particularly compacted wax.
This can extend the appointment, although even a complex case of ear wax removal will typically take less than an hour, even with the additional preparation and steps necessary.
